What age can I start learning to drive?
You can apply for a provisional licence at 15 years and 9 months, but you can only start driving a car on the road at 17 (or 16 if you receive the enhanced mobility component of PIP).
Do I need a provisional licence before starting lessons?
Yes. You must hold a valid UK provisional driving licence before taking any on-road driving lessons.
How do I get a provisional licence?
You can apply online at: https://www.gov.uk/apply-first-provisional-driving-licence(https://www.gov.uk/apply-first-provisional-driving-licence)
What is a licence ‘Check Code’ and why do you ask for it?
It is a secure, one-time code generated by the DVLA that allows us to digitally verify your driving record. We require it to confirm that your provisional licence is valid and to check for any disqualifications or penalty points before your first lesson, for insurance and legal purposes.
How do I generate a licence ‘Check Code’?
Visit the ‘View or share your driving licence information’ page at: https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence(https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence)
You will need your driving licence number, National Insurance number, and the postcode shown on your licence to log in and select the "Share your licence information" option.
Is there an eyesight requirement?
Yes. You must be able to read a vehicle number plate from a distance of 20 metres (roughly 5 car lengths) in good daylight. If you need glasses or contact lenses to see this distance, you must wear them every time you drive.
